About

Engineering leadership, grounded in payments

I'm an Engineering Manager in payments, currently leading the teams behind Netbanking, Wallets, TokenHQ, and MandateHQ at Razorpay. My work sits where reliability matters most: payment infrastructure that has to stay correct, available, and compliant while it scales.

Over 14 years I've moved from writing real-time card authorization and ISO-8583 switching systems to architecting payment platforms and, today, building the organization that delivers them. I scaled a payments engineering squad from 2 to 14 engineers — owning hiring, onboarding, mentoring, career tracks, and performance calibration.

I care about system boundaries that let teams ship independently, observability that turns incidents into fast recoveries, and connecting engineering work to measurable outcomes. Having delivered RBI-compliant banking systems and worked across tokenization and e-mandate mandates, I'm comfortable operating in tightly regulated, high-stakes environments.

More recently I've been applying GenAI to engineering itself — building agentic systems on LangChain and MCP tooling that automate parts of the SDLC and operational reporting, grounded with RAG over runbooks, API specs, and incident history, and evaluating open-source LLaMA models against hosted LLMs on accuracy, latency, cost, and data residency.

    2020 — Present
    Pune, India

Lead the engineering teams behind four payment products — Netbanking, Wallets, TokenHQ, and MandateHQ — owning architecture, delivery, reliability, and the growth of the organization.

    • Architected and delivered the NB+ platform — a next-generation netbanking stack with intelligent routing, retry logic, and issuer-level optimizations that improved payment success rates.
    • Integrated wallets with multiple banking partners and SDK providers, extending payment-method coverage across a base of 10M+ merchants.
    • Owned the Smart Collect roadmap and delivery, enabling automated reconciliation for enterprise clients and reducing manual effort by 60%.
    • Owned incident response for payment failures across Netbanking and Wallet flows, driving RCA to resolution within SLA for 95%+ of P1/P2 incidents.
    • Cut recurring payment failures by 40% through proactive Grafana monitoring dashboards and automated alerting pipelines.
    • Unblocked cross-team dependencies with Platform, Risk, and Compliance to ship RBI-mandated tokenization and e-mandate features on time.
    • Built the payments engineering squad from scratch (2 → 14 engineers), owning hiring, onboarding, and mentoring across all levels.
    • Established engineering career tracks and ran performance calibration cycles; promoted 3 engineers within 2 review cycles.
    • Decomposed the legacy netbanking monolith into modular, independently deployable services, reducing deployment lead-time by 3×.
    • Introduced AI-driven debugging pipelines that reduced mean time to identify root cause by 50% for production incidents.
    • Built agentic systems that auto-generate and publish the pod's weekly OpEx matrix — pulling incident, SLO, deployment, and code-quality signals from Jira/DevRev, Grafana, and GitHub into a single scorecard.
    • Embedded LLM agents across the SDLC — requirement breakdown, code review, test generation, and release-readiness checks — built on LangChain agents and MCP tooling.
    • Grounded agent output with RAG over runbooks, API specs, and incident history, and evaluated open-source LLaMA models against hosted LLMs on accuracy, latency, cost, and data residency.

Leadership

How I lead engineering

Principles drawn from building teams and running payment infrastructure — how I think about people, reliability, architecture, and impact.

01

Build teams, not dependencies

Scaling a squad from 2 to 14 taught me that durable delivery comes from hiring well, onboarding deliberately, and growing engineers through clear career tracks and honest calibration — not from a few indispensable people.

02

Reliability is a product feature

Payment infrastructure earns trust by staying up. I invest in observability, alerting, and incident ownership so failures are caught early and driven from RCA to resolution within SLA.

03

Architecture should enable teams

Good system boundaries are an organizational tool. Decomposing a monolith into independently deployable services isn't just cleaner design — it's what lets teams ship in days instead of weeks.

04

Measure engineering impact

Engineering work should connect to outcomes you can point at — success rates, failure reduction, deployment lead-time, mean time to root cause. If it matters, it's worth measuring.
